Howdy BWP Summer of ‘07. I just love this group and our sessions because I always leave you guys filled to the brim with ideas, motivation, creativity, and the whole nine. Shout outs to BWP Summer of ‘07, Genny and Sarah from summer of ‘06 for encouraging me to do this program, and Matt from summer of ‘06 for hooking up this amazing website.
Check you all later!!!!
Thank you for participating in my Mango mini-lesson today! There were many great ideas bouncing around, and I will organize all of the thoughts and post them up shortly.

Does anyone have any exemplar essays or resources they could direct me to?
Thanks,
Barbara
I want to welcome you all to the new BWP website. This is just a beginning, and I hope you all will help in making this the “go-to” site for anyone interested in writing and the teaching of writing. As we learn how to make our way around the site and the various blogs please let us know what topics you’d like to see discussed. I’m really interested in reading and sharing ideas that relate to the connections between popular culture and teaching writing. I envision us reading common articles, sharing our thoughts and creating classroom applications that benefit from what we’ve done.Let me know how you all think/feel about this and we can build a great site together.

Can we use this as we did the NWP site over the summer?

Hello!
I will be teaching JR and SR English next semester - for the first time! When I am not tending to my nerves, I am doing my best to develop plans for the many texts assigned to these classes. If anyone has great lesson ideas on American Lit or Brit Lit, please let me know! Thank you in advance!

Hello and welcome to the blog. There are posts below with good information, and you can have access to the blog (to comment and to write your own posts) by registering yourself. Look to the bottom right of the page where there is a “register” button. I look forward to hearing your feedback so we can refine and improve this resource.
Thanks,
Matt
What kind of things can you use this blog for?
First, you can get help. Need to find a good text for your classroom? Want help about investment strategies? Looking for model rubrics for a writing assignment? Need ideas for an upcoming unit? There are lots of great teachers associated with the BWP who are full of helpful suggestions and can respond to you. To get the ball rolling and show you how it’s done, I’ve posted a question myself right below this post.
Second, you can share best practices. Tell us about your successes and let other teachers’ students benefit, too!
Third, you can share teacher writing and, if you want, get feedback.
Fourth and beyond, I’m sure there are lots of things I have neglected to think of. I’m really excited to see where this blog will head…

I’m teaching a research paper to my 7th-graders after the holidays. In the past, students have struggled to take effective notes when learning about new topics, even after I have shared some concrete strategies. Has anyone had great success in this area? Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Matt
